What are the different types of cleaning supplies?

Knowing the ingredients in commercial products is crucial to select your cleaning articles in Panama. Alkalis, acids, detergents, abrasives, sanitizers, and spirit solvents are the most typical household cleaning product ingredients.

Green Clean Services are committed to using the post eco-friendly products and have produced this guide to help you understand which ingredients are included in the products we offer.

Abrasives

Scouring powders and pads may contain abrasives, particularly calcium carbonate. The cleanser is often harsher the larger the abrasive particles. The finest abrasive is plastic or nylon mesh, and the finer the abrasive, the less harm it causes to the surface being cleaned.

The finish of sinks, bathtubs, and kitchen appliances will progressively be scratched by the repeated application of harsh abrasives on a surface because coarse abrasives fare rough and gritty. Once the surface is dull and rough, it gets dirtier and stains deeper, and you have to continue using a harsh abrasive to remove imbedded dirt and stain.

Coarse abrasives can harm painted woodwork, plastic, glass, non-stick cookware surfaces, glass, plated, and highly polished metals.

Acids

Acids are useful for eliminating hard water deposits, rust stains on copper and iron, and discolouration from aluminium, brass, and bronze. Strong acids can also dissolve some metals, leather, clothing, and skin. They may also cause eye and skin irritation and damage.

Some examples of acids and their strengths, for are:

  • Mild: Vinegar, which has an acidity of roughly 5%, cleans glassware of hard water stains. Citric acids like those in lemon juice function quite similarly to those in vinegar.
  • Strong: Oxalic acid is highly dangerous and particularly good in removing rust. It occasionally appears in cleaners for toilet bowls.

Alkalies

Alkalis are soluble salts that can effectively clean without rubbing too hard. Because the alkalis create an emulsion, which is a mixture in which greasy or solid particles are kept in suspension, they are effective at removing grease. Because the particles do not split from the liquid, they do not end up back on the surface being cleaned.

The strength of alkaline chemicals varies depending on the cleaning articles in Panama. The majority are poisonous, some are caustic, and some can irritate the skin and eyes. Stronger alkalis have the potential to burn people and, if swallowed, result in fatal inside damage.

  • Mild: One illustration of a mild alkali is baking soda (sodium bicarbonate).
  • Moderate: Household ammonia is a water-based solution containing 5–10% ammonia gas. It is present in window cleaners, oven cleansers, and all-purpose cleaners.
  • Extremely Potent: Sodium carbonate, often known as washing soda or sal soda. Lye, commonly known as caustic soda and a sodium hydroxide, is an ingredient in various oven and drain cleaners.

Bleaches

The bleach most frequently used in household cleaning products, and cleaning articles in Panama, is chlorine. New non-chlorine bleaches, however, are gaining popularity mostly due to the fact that they are less dangerous to use and store.

Detergents

Some laundry detergents can be used for cleaning tasks around the house. When complex soluble phosphates are added to a detergent, the detergent’s ability to remove greasy filth increases.

Sanitizers

Sanitizers are substances that lessen the amount of bacteria and are frequently used when washing dishes and cleaning bathrooms. Use with caution and adhere to the bottle’s instructions.

Since sanitizers eliminate odor-producing microbes, they also aid in deodorizing surfaces.

Spirit Cleaners

Spirit solvent is present in the majority of polishes and waxes for wood floors and furniture. These solvents remove greasy grime, making them similar to the liquids used in dry-cleaning procedures.
